Product Review: Jake and the Never Land Pirates Never Land Challenge Game (Age 3+)

I loved the story of Peter Pan, but it was always the idea of Never Land and the Pirates that got me excited. A place where you never had to grow up? That sounded fantastic to a child. I really didn’t understand what it meant to be a grown up, but fretting over bills and long hours at work did not sound like fun to me. Although the character of Peter Pan, the Boy Who Would Never Grow Up, was written as an homage from a son to his grieving mother who lost her eldest son at the age of 13 in an accident (thus never ‘growing up’ in her mind), the stories of Peter Pan that writer J.M. Barrie created was of a never ending childhood with Peter as the ringleader. Why grow up if you never had to get older? While we all realize that the story of an unending youth can never be fully captured in our lifetime, the creativity and active play that goes so well with childhood can be re-created in a fun game for the entire family based on the pirates of Never Land!

Jake and the Never Land Pirates Never Land Challenge Game is an imaginative game for children three and older that challenges players to collect the most doubloons through different feats to accomplish. Never heard of Jake either? He is based on the Disney show called Jake and the Never Land Pirates, which of course is based on the Peter Pan books. In Jake’s game, you win doubloons by successfully completing tasks that you take on by shouting, “Yo Ho, let’s go!” before your attempt. The challenges are filled with fun props (feather, swords and swinging vines to name a few) to really put yourself on the Never Land island. The props are great for imagination and children are encouraged to create new rules. So fun! The person to collect the most doubloons at the end of the game is the winner. However, with the promotion of self-confidence, discovery, activity and early reading skills, everyone really comes out as a winner.
