I have spent a lot of time in Washington, D.C., mostly as an adult, and there is always so much to do and see each time I go. I even had the very interesting experience (and one of my most strange visiting D.C.!) of being in the D.C. area when the 5.8 earthquake hit in August 2011. Granted, when I go, I am mostly there for work so site seeing is often limited, but I think it is such a great place for families to get to know more about the center of our political system. If you are planning on taking your family on a trip to D.C. or just want to know more about the area, then this is the perfect book for you! This is a great adventure for future politicians or families fascinated by politics. What better way to learn about our three branches of government through visiting historical sites and having fun through this informative book.
A Kid’s Guide to Washington, D.C. was originally published in 1989 and has been updated frequently with new editions for a useful guidebook to D.C. for children. Originally an interesting guide, the book now contains lots of trivia, games and puzzles and gives lots of fascinating locations that are kid-friendly in the area. If your family is planning a trip to the capital, this is a great way for your child to play an active role in vacation planning and also have a wonderful travel companion for sightseeing. It was a fun read and I learned quite a bit of history of the area and immediate metropolitan area. There is also lots of wonderful pictures and historical data that is perfect for school trips or traveling with family. Highly recommended!
