Product Review: Grammaropolis CD (Age 7+)
Good Grammar is a Fundamental Part of a Child’s Education
I recently read a great blog post by ThoughtLeaders LLC Blog about the importance of ‘simple speak’ which includes speaking and writing plainly and properly. Grammar is a huge part of being clear in our communication and the way we ‘speak’ and the way we ‘write’ can sometimes make our language skills a little sketchy. While I can cringe at certain ways sentences are written or said, I know I can break rules right and left if I am not vigilant or do not slow down when I write. Quick turnaround in e-mails and just having little time to edit my own blog, I sometimes go back and think ‘Yikes!’ how did I let that slip? Grammar is so important and it is nice to know that making this subject fun and accessible to children can be a challenge, which is why I was very excited to learn about the mission of Grammaropolis.
Grammaropolis CD by the award-winning children’s kindie musician Doctor Noize is just one part of the entire grammar-based program. The Mayor of Grammaropolis, aka Coert Voorhees, was a 7th grade English teacher that found his bored students become interested when he started introducing storylines to writing and speech that got the kid’s interested. Coert sought out Doctor Noize to help him come up with a 21-track (Wow!) CD that is all about grammar for kids ages seven and up. The songs on the CD are hilarious (I think of them as a Rocky Horror Picture soundtrack – but about grammar- with a very musical-esque quality) yet educational that is a great tool for parents, teachers, and students who need a little help with grammar rules. If your child struggles with the difference between adjective and adverb, transitive and intransitive verbs or knowing the importance of properly using correlative conjunctions, well, this may be just the ticket! Hey, you may even learn a few things, too.
