Although my daughter is no longer an infant, I am able to keep up-to-date on new books for newborns while researching children’s books and I found a new series I wanted to review for my readers with babies. Plus, you also have an awesome baby shower gift idea to keep in your pocket when needed! I have read quite a bit about how high contrast images for children improve early recognition. In fact, I bought high-contrast board books for Brooke when she was an infant and you could definitely see she would check out the images in deep concentration. Research shows that black and white are the easiest colors (and yes, I do understand the additive color theory and how black is really the absence of color, but I digress….) for babies to perceive and they have strong perception to red and blue and bold graphics. Priddy Books has decided to design an entire series geared towards newborns until the age of six months to give our children the most visual stimulation from the start.
Hello Baby Mirror Board Book is my favorite of the series because it not only features wonderful high contrasting colors it has a very shiny mirror that encourages self-recognition and hand-eye coordination. The defined and bold patterns provide optimum stimulation and visual perception. I also like to think it’s a great way to start child on a love of books from an early age, too!
