Product Review: All About Holidays Book on Halloween *Early Reader* (Grades PreK–1)

My very favorite Halloween was when I went to a neighborhood party as a young girl dressed in a plastic Shirt Tails costume from Benjamin Franklin’s general store (I think it was the Pammy the Panda character). Everyone must have won prizes for costumes because I did get some sort of ribbon and I got to bob for apples for the very first time (yeah, not as fun as one would think). It was exciting to be part of the sea of costumes and it was fun to see kids from my school after class hours. I have always had a lot of fun during Halloween, but it was the combination of games and prizes on top of the costumes that just made the experience a little magical. I still love to dress up and have made family costumes a personal fun event and hope to continue until Brooke is too cool to dress up with her parents. I have at least another good three or four years, right? Ha.
First up, All About Halloween! Halloween or All-Hallow-Even (meaning the eve before All Saints Day) is traced to the ancient Celtic day of the dead and the Christian church made November 1st a day to honor the saints or ‘hallows’. October 31 was considered to be the last day of the year according to the pagans and the demanding of food and drink and wearing of costumes can be traced to the Celts. It has become a fun event of dressing up for children for candy and playing tricks and getting treats (and one of my personal favorite holidays).
Halloween is a fun early reader for small children, which means there are just a few repeating words with lots of fun pictures with kids and animals in costume, with a Halloween-theme.
