Interactive Retelling of the Classic It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!

For me, Halloween is not Halloween without the Great Pumpkin.  It’s my favorite Halloween cartoon special and I happen to think Linus van Pelt is the best Peanuts character that the late Charles M. Schulz created.  This lovely book (written by Charles M Schulz) is based on the Emmy-nominated television special of the same name that debuted in 1966.  As a huge fan of the special, I was not disappointed in this adaptation and thought the added sound prompts really did bring the story to life.  It is very true to the original fun and glorious story of Linus and The Great Pumpkin and I loved sharing it with my family.

It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown: With Sound and Music will introduce the awesome Peanuts characters to new fans and charm previous fans of all ages with the re-telling of The Great Pumpkin.  Linus van Pelt and the rest of the Peanuts gang is ready to celebrate Halloween with costumes, parties and Linus’s insistence that something called The Great Pumpkin comes out of the pumpkin patch each year on Halloween and brings bags of toys for children everywhere.  Unfortunately, no one believes Linus, except little Sally who is none too pleased when The Great Pumpkin never shows up and she misses her first chance at trick-or-treating.  Of course, Linus never gives up hope and knows that next year The Great Pumpkin will be back.  You will see!  Next year, Linus…next year……

About Charles M. Schulz:  Charles M. Schulz (November 26, 1922 – February 12, 2000), nicknamed Sparky to his close friends, was born in Minneapolis, MN and created one of the most loved comic strips in history, Peanuts.  Charles loved to draw, especially pictures of his favorite dog, Spike, growing up.  Although timid and shy as a child, he did try to submit his drawing to his high school newspaper, which they rejected!  Ha!  He was drafted into the Army in 1943 and after being discharged in 1945, he returned to MN as an art teacher.  His first comic strip (Li’l Folks) was published in the St. Paul Pioneer Press and Peanuts (which has a lot of parallels to his own life) made its first appearance on October 2, 1950 with the United Feature Syndicate.
