Alfred Music Publishing has been known for being educational music publishers since 1922 and has a catalog full of Song Folio Books that include sheet music for piano and vocals for children. I definitely took it for granted that I grew up in a musical family with a mom who can read sheet music and plays guitar and piano. I actually know enough piano to be slightly dangerous, but I wouldn’t call myself even an intermediate player. However, with enough practice on a song, I can play like no one’s business! Some of my happy childhood memories center on a piano and playing and singing songs off of sheet music. When I saw Alfred’s song folio collection of a ‘treasury’ of kid’s songs I thought it would be a fun way to incorporate some family time with my mom and Brooke on our little portable keyboard this October (yup, Brooke’s grandma is visiting her soon after a year of not seeing each other so we are excited!).
The Treasury of Great Kids’ Songs folio has the sheet music and lyrics for over 50 titles that children (and parents) will love. There are classic songs like ‘Yankee Doodle’ and ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ to the Star Wars Theme and ‘Return to Pooh Corner’. Want to know how to play the Jeopardy theme song? What about ‘(Meet) The Flintstones’? It’s all here in this fun book. This is a very unique collection that is geared for *ahem* untrained singers and intermediate piano players, so it’s all for good family fun. It is also perfect for teaching purposes, but we will be using it for home use for mostly grandma’s visits. I can pick up a song or two to learn, but this will be a special book for the two of them to have together, like I did with my aunt and mom around the holidays. Music and family time have always gone together in my life and I am happy to extend that to Brooke’s generation. Create some happy musical memories to all the families out there!
