Product Review:  Fight Like a Girl Wristband (Cervical Cancer – Teal and White) *Special Post for Cancer Support*

Serving the Cancer Community.  Supporting Cancer Research.

Why do we wear Cancer buttons and wristbands and put bumper stickers on our car and do 5K walks?  Because we are doing something and I suppose that makes me feel a little better than doing nothing at all.  When my good friend recently told me she had stage II cervical cancer, I lost it for a few minutes.  I was mad.  This is not supposed to happen to people like her.  She gave me my first chance at a financial job and she trusted me to do excellent work.  She kept in touch with me long after we were co-workers and are just friends.  She gets my sense of humor and I get hers.  But, she feels lucky, she has the surgery scheduled and the outlook is good, but it feels too real.  I don’t feel lucky.  There is nothing I can do.  Nothing I can offer.  No words to make things better.  I don’t like feeling that way.  So, what did I do?  I found a really cool community that supports the cancer community through raising donations for cancer research and thought I could do a small part in my own way to support her fight.  Did you know that there is a separate color for every type of cancer support (teal and white for cervical cancer)?  I had to (just had to) get the ‘Fight Like a Girl’ wristband for this type of cancer that solely affects women and laugh because that is what my friend would do.  We fight like girls, which mean we are tough yet vulnerable.  We never give up and we won’t back down.  If ‘fighting like a girl’ is supposed to be an insult, it laughingly is not.  It’s an honor.  In this case, this is a ‘wristband of honor’ to fight like a girl and I want to do that for you, my friend.  For whatever that is worth.

  1. She is lucky — to have a wonderful friend like you. I cheer her and all women on “to fight like girls”

Thanks for doing what you can. Some curse the darkness, you lit a candle.
