Guess Who Needs Glasses? ‏

This is a fun and informative book about Bumpy and Boo, identical twins, who go to the eye doctor.  One of the twins needs glasses while the other one doesn’t.  Uh oh!  They like being identical twins and how can they be the same if one has to wear glasses?  How can one twin need glasses while the other one doesn’t?

While this is a sweet book (and an iParenting Media Award winner!) about identical twins it also touches on the importance of getting children’s eyes checked regularly.  Some children who are getting frequent headaches, their grades suddenly dropping for no reason or they are complaining about not being able to see the front of the classroom may just need a pair of glasses.  Many insurance companies will cover an annual eye exam with an ophthalmologist or even a specialized pediatric ophthalmologist.  Below I talk about the InfantSEE program where children six months to one year can get a free eye exam at participating locations.

InfantSEE program:  The InfantSEE program is a free national public program available through participating optometrists to give a no-cost comprehensive vision and eye health assessment for infants between the ages of 6 months to 1 year.  Brooke had her first eye appointment through the InfantSEE program here in Austin when she was six months old.  Brooke’s doctor told us that many eye issues can be corrected if found that early, so why not participate in this free program?

About Merry Lane Press:  Alan Halpern is a grandpa of six who started Merry Lane Press after 9/11.  I read a great article about Merry Lane from 2005 that starts out, ‘Many monsters emerged from the events of 9/11, but few, if any’ have the charm of “A Monster Named Criney Who Makes Kids Whiney’.  It is interesting to get the back story to products and I thought that a grandfather who had a dream to make children’s books that teach children ‘life lessons’ was an important one to follow through with in life.    You can tell these books are his passion and I love the great messages behind them.  Great job, grandpa!
