Product Review: Periodic Table Non-Laminated Poster (Age 10+)
Discover the Frontiers of Your Imagination
I like educational posters around the home and Safari Ltd has such a nice wide variety that you can purchase in many ways. For example, you can choose Laminated versus Non-Laminated, Rolled and Sleeved or Laminated Rolled and Sleeved. I really like the posters of key scientific information that I think is very important for children to learn. The Periodic Table was something that I struggled to understand in middle school and I think the way I was taught the subject was less than stellar and I want my daughter to have a fun experience learning the elements. I wish my teacher would have explained that the periodic table was really the entire heart and soul in the way our universe works. The elements presented in the periodic table are actually the building blocks for all matter. Just take a minute and think about that. And remember, elements are not just atoms. Elements are atoms with specific characteristics. For example, we are made up of billions of atoms but we probably have no more than 40 elements (aka a type of atom) in our body. In fact, chemists believe that most of our body is made up of just hydrogen (H), carbon (C), nitrogen (N), oxygen (O), phosphorus (P), and calcium (Ca). How amazing is that?
The Periodic Table of the Elements Poster is a large size of 36″ W x 24″ H (91 x 61 cm) to help children have a nice visual of the known (or confirmed) chemical elements on earth. The periodic table is organized on the basis of a chemical’s atomic number, electron configuration and chemical property and is presented in increasing atomic numbers. As of 2012, the periodic table contains 118 chemical elements. The atomic number, element symbol and name are included on the poster as well as the history of the table. While this is just a nice overview of the table and basic information, it starts a great conversation and basis for learning and understanding the elements, which is the entire point of the poster. The more you surround your environment with ‘elements’ of learning (see what I did there? Ha!), the more you can increase your knowledge of important subjects like math and science.
About Safari Ltd: Safari Ltd is celebrating 30 years as a company (1982-2012)! While they have a variety of educational products in their catalog, it was their license agreement in 1986 with the Carnegie Museum of Natural History when they began to produce authentic, scale-model dinosaurs that are major collectables worldwide. Safari Ltd has continued for three generations with its passion for wildlife, the joy of play and imagination in all of their toys and I hope to see them carry on for another three generations and beyond!
