Product Review: Conversations to Go Game – Money from Moonjar (Family Fun)
Does Money Buy Happiness? How Long Does Happiness Last?
My family conversations about money when I was growing up were never fun-filled or compelling. Mostly they were downright depressing and taboo. Apparently, we didn’t have enough or we spent too much. I’m not really sure which but I think it was the former because I think I would have known it was the latter. To be honest, I now know my dad was just thrifty and saved his money wisely and retired early and lives a modest life. He didn’t want anything extravagant and neither did we, for the most part. We didn’t ask for much but we knew not to ask for much. Thinking about having a family time fun filled game about the topic of money is actually quite funny to me. I just couldn’t imagine it, but I like the idea and want that for my own family. I think I learned a lot by my experience, but I think it would have been more enriching as a family to talk about what money means and why it was important to live within our means. Not everyone gets that knowledge by osmosis, so why are people so scared to talk about money with their kids? If we didn’t learn good money habits or fiscal knowledge from our parents, we can be the parents our kids can learn from. Perhaps our generation will be the more fiscally responsible than the last and let’s hope it is because we teach our kids to be that way and not because we are handing them a pile of debt. I think these money conversations are needed within families to build a healthy relationship with finances from the start. Like MoonJar says, ‘Count’ on having fun!
