Celebrating 25 Years of Independent Publishing – Jessica Kingsley Publishers

We all know about drugs.  Right?  I mean, we know drugs exist.  We know that it is not good for your body to abuse drugs.  We know young people can feel pressure to take drugs, but do we really know the facts about drugs and how to openly talk about them to our kids in an intellectual way?  Bob and I plan to be active parents and try to be a good coach for Brooke and tackling tough subject like drugs is not one we want to sugar coat or use scare tactics.  I want to have facts, be informative, role play and really discuss the importance of making positive choices for a healthy body and mind.  Young people will develop attitudes and set values about drugs whether or not we, as parents, talk to them about drugs.  I feel that A Little Book of Drugs offers parents the exact tool I was looking for if Brooke was now a teen and offered a lot of great information and insight for when that day will quickly come.

A Little Book of Drugs is an exploration for families about the subject of drugs with their young child and put into three sections of warm-ups, activities and reviewing.  The exercises are a way to deal with drugs and some great background information while the activities section covers everything from more in depth information, societal attitude, peer influence and values.  The reviewing section is some basic drug information and a comprehensive section of each drug and their effects.  I like that this book is factual without being too preachy.  It is very straightforward and offers realistic advice and discusses damage that drugs can do to your body over time.  It’s a great great for families with children in the pre-teen age, too!
