Fine Books and Gifts Since 1928 – Books with Music CDs Collection

My father’s family is Irish Catholic.  When I put ‘is’ in italics, I do not do it lightly!  There is even a castle in the UK that bears my maiden name.  That part of my lineage came to America in 1725 (an uncle came first in 1674) from a Scotch-Irish settlement in northern Ireland (Balleymoney, Ireland to be exact) settling in Marsh Creek, PA.   My ancestors came to the United States for, among other things, religious freedom and eventually my part of the family tree settled into the Appalachian area of Ohio.  My father went to Catholic school from kindergarten until he graduated high school, I have attended mass since a child, my grandparents made the pilgrimage to Ireland (and the Vatican) when I was young (they even kissed the blarney stone) and Notre Dame is ‘our’ team.  If that does not qualify us as being Irish-centric in America, I don’t know what else we could do besides getting four-leaf clover tattoos on our arms.  As a person that loves family history and genealogy, I have always been drawn to all things Irish and hope to one day take a trip there with my own little family.  Until then, I love products like the music and song book of the Tales and Songs of Ireland CD through the Peter Pauper collection to share with my daughter.

The Tales and Songs of Ireland CD is a ‘blend of music and storytelling from the Emerald Isle’.  The Irish tales are both traditional and lesser-known songs performed by the famous The New Millennium Chorus and Symphony Orchestra.  While the songs are breathtaking and beautifully executed, it is the lovely 56-page hardcover book that accompanies the CD that includes beautiful illustrations and background information about the included Irish tales.  After the introduction, the book is broken down into the five tales and songs of the CD: The Legend of St. Patrick, The Magical Harp of Dagda, The Wooing of Etain, Oenghus and Caer and Diarmaid and Grainne. I actually read the stories out loud while my family listened and it was fun as well as learning a thing or two about Irish history and folklore.  Perhaps it’s the Irish blood that pumps through my veins that makes me such a dreamer and storyteller who can spin a yarn or two.  I like to think that could be the case.
