Product Review: Astrograss CD ‘The Colored Pencil Factory’ (All Ages)
The Power of Imagination, Bluegrass Style! Coming out in October 2012!
For those who did not have the pleasure growing up around bluegrass music, it isn’t some hillybilly barefoot types sitting on their dirty porch blowing into a moonshine jug. Bluegrass music takes a lot of talent with plenty of banjo, mandolin, violin, and amazing harmonies that make up this rootsy-type music. The Astrograss newest CD out in October mixes the amazing Appalachian mountain music charm with traditional bluegrass and it is a pure delight to the ears.
The ‘Colored Pencil Factory’ album is a children’s album without amplifiers, drums, pedals, or *gasp* effects. Count me in! This album was recorded in the fiddle player’s kitchen and it comes through in its pure and organic sound.

About Astrograss: Although the two songwriters, Shapiro and Grossman, have been writing together for the past 17 years, Astrograss (as it is known today) was officially formed in 2003. All five of the members are music educators and Astrograss for Kids was inspired by their Brooklyn public school music education experience. Austinites (aka people from Austin, TX) may recognize this bands name from playing at one of our local SXSW music festivals. Check out their shop for additional albums and the adorable Astrograss t-shirt for kids. Love!
