Product Review: Can We Play Again? [Paperback]
We Can Paint the World a Beautiful Picture
There are lots of things that can make kids feel sad and blue. Normal cycles of sadness are a passing phase and something all of us humans go through but when the sadness is a result of a deeper issue and is no longer considered normal, than talking about it to a therapist is an excellent idea. Even very young children can go through issues like anxiety and depression and when children experience things like domestic violence, sexual abuse or even mental illness than it is important that they get the help they need so they can get back to play.
This story is told from the perspective of Buddy the dog who is concerned about his human friend, Chloe, a young girl who is sad and no longer interested in playing with him. Luckily, with the help of Chloe’s family (and an Art Therapist), Chloe is able to get the help she needs and is back to being her happy playful self. Although I was unfamiliar with art therapy and how it works, the book explained it in a nice and simple manner and explained the benefits in a great way. This Mom’s Choice Award winning book is perfect to discuss feelings with kids and to let them know that it is okay if they need help in order to feel better. This is such an important issue to help children discuss feelings instead of keeping them inside. Bravo!
