Product Review: Everyone Poops (My Body Science) [Hardcover] (Ages 1-3)
All living things eat, so Everyone Poops! So, Let’s Kick Off Momma’s Bacon Potty Training Week!
It may not surprise my readers to know that my family had a set of Uncle John’s Bathroom Readers in our restroom when I was growing up. It was a way to learn fun little facts while doing your business. I’ve read lots of recommendations to have books in the bathroom for little kids to read during and after potty training because sometimes the wait is much long than anticipated for your little one. For us, it was just a matter of incorporating more books into our bathroom stash and Brooke certainly already has her favorites. I may do a few additional posts on good bathroom books for children, but I wanted to do my very first one that may even incite at least a tiny giggle from you. Fair warning: This book is definitely not for the easily embarrassed or parents who consider themselves on the prudish side. Are you ready? It’s called Everyone Poops! Are you giggling? OK, let’s move on! I want to share some of my favorite potty-esque (and you will see what I mean by ‘esque’ with later reviews) products with you in a week long potty adventure because poop and all things potty have been a long yet normal part of our daily journey in our world of having a child and I know we are not alone!
Everyone Poops is a book that nicely illustrates the very basic understanding for kids that everyone who eats does, in fact, poop. It’s just true. You can’t really argue that and little children (the book is geared for the ages of 1-3) are very interested to know that they are not the only ones out there who have these bodily functions. The book’s depicts many types of animals illustrated with their different kinds and sizes of poop (yes, elephant poop is big) that makes this book interesting to kids. My family recently went to a zoo and the animals are not embarrassed or shy about relieving themselves in front of you and kids certainly love to point that out. The petting zoo is like an arena of fresh dung and that is just life and a topic of much loved discussion for kids. Towards the end of the book it talks about humans and how they go from pooping in a diaper to the toilet which is a nice connection. It should be no secret that everyone poops and this fun and matter-of-fact book perfectly demonstrates this for very young children.
