Product Review: Forest Bright, Forest Night {Board Book} (Ages 0-4)
Connecting Children and Nature
Even now if I think about it I can hear the wildlife calls from my back yard growing up. I can see the deer that came up to our house at night with their sparkling eyes. I remember the crackling of the branches beneath my feet on Rudolph Farms and the nights spent under the stars at Wayne ‘The Wayne’ National Forest. When you grow up surrounded by forest and farm land the sounds and the ways of the wild is almost second nature. You don’t really think about it or miss it until it is gone. I like reading books like Forest Bright, Forest Night to my daughter who does not get the pleasure to grow up around The Wayne, but she still gets to experience the great outdoors in her own unique way right here in the middle of Austin.
Forest Bright, Forest Night is a clever counting book that teaches children which animals are awake in the day and which ones are asleep and vice versa. The book is written in two parts. When the moon goes down and the sun comes up, the reader gets to learn and count 10 different animals that are in the forest during the day. Chipmunk’s race and turkeys gobble and even quails rest. But what happens when the sun sinks into the night and some forest animals rest while others come out on the prowl? Opossums are sneaking and climbing and crickets are jumping and crawling and the readers count 10 more animals who are deep in the shadows. A really lovely visual and, as expected from Dawn Publishing, ‘a simply nature book’. Ahhhh.. Refreshing!
