Product Review: Ellen & Matt “It’s Love” CD (All Ages)
Capybara you act like you don’t care. You’re ugly-snuggly like a grungy teddy bear.
When I was fifteen I was pretty convinced I was supposed to be a rock star or, at the very least, a rock songwriter. I would play in basements, at the YM and YWCAs at hilarious little shows with a network of kids that would put together ‘concerts’ in our local cities and most of us played raw and unbridled rock and grunge music. We had funny band names, wrote our own songs and it felt important and fun and cathartic. Talent was there but not polished (so there were a few people that did go on to achieve some national fame, but that was the exception) and it was not until I was in my twenties that I realized I did not have the time, money or energy to follow through with that rock star dream. However, I did love it at that time of my life and I still love to listen to that crunch and messiness of garage rock. It takes me back and reminds me of my teenage years. It was nice to hear that sort of energy in a kid’s album and Ellen and Matt’s second album is like the unleashed music of my youth mixed with adults and kids themes. I thought it was pretty perfect to hear with my daughter!
Ellen & Matt Kennedy are an L.A.-based husband and wife musical duo in the kindie rock scene that just came out with their second children’s album called “It’s Love”. Check out the cover and, yes, that is their pictures when they were young. Awww! I love that Ellen & Matt are parents to three boys and, after a five year hiatus of raising kids, are back to rocking kids socks off. Parents who lived through the grunge era of the 90s will appreciate this album and kids will just love the funky grooves and sweet lyrics. We can’t all be rock stars, but we can live (or listen?) vicariously through parents who are!
