Product Review: A School Like Mine [Hardcover] (Geared for Ages 8-12)
A Unique Celebration of Schools Around the World
I like to accumulate books that will broaden my daughter’s mind to the rest of the world to show the commonalities and differences between everyone on this planet. I think it is good to be aware and to celebrate our cultures. Children relate to other children, so I love the book A School Like Mine through the UNICEF Organization that looks at children and their school experiences around the world. Although I look forward to my child having a peer-to-peer learning experience through this book, I think we can all grow from world journeys and looking into others experiences.
A School Like Mine is an award-winning book that was commissioned to include 30 schools from around the world in association with UNICEF to teach kids their peer experiences. This book is divided by continents (all except Antarctica are included) and shows children from around the world at their schools. I love the insight into how each child lives and plays and there are many similarities children in the U.S. can find with the kids in this book. Some children live in the city, some in the country and some wear uniforms and some have to walk to school. This book gives a great global perspective for our kids and shows that some children must go through great lengths in order to get educated. Great lesson! Oh, and the intro to this book was written by David Beckham who is a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF.
