Award-Winning Maestro Classics CD Collection
Maestro Classics was created to help families incorporate an appreciation of classical music in our family life. Listening to music together as a family is a very special and educational experience and there are many benefits to learning about and understanding the classical genre art form. I am sure you have heard or read studies about how even playing classical music while pregnant is said to be beneficial to a developing child and the Maestro Classics website has a great page on suggestions for incorporating classical music into your family from pregnancy to adulthood. I was always quite moved by the works of the German-born composer, Georg Friedrich Händel, and thought the CD entitled My Name is Handel: The Story of Water Music was quite fitting for my family.
My Name is Handel: The Story of Water Music is the collection of orchestral movements created and premiered by Handel on July 17, 1717 as a surprise to King George I on the River Thames. It is legend that the famous composer (who became a naturalized British subject in 1727) had fallen out of favor of King George I when he made the move to London before his then-employer took the throne and created this suite of dances to get back into the king’s good graces. While this theory is disputed, there is no dispute that this well-loved works by Handel was a hit on the king’s royal boat ride and continues to be considered some of his best work to this day. This CD recreates the original 50 musician display from 1717 and features the famous London Philharmonic Orchestra. The CD also comes with a 24-page activity book that has lots of fun learning for kids like the history of the harpsichord and background information of Handel’s life. It is a great way to get your children involved and have an appreciation with classical music.
