How does cotton feel to the touch? How is cotton made? Children are naturally curious about their surroundings and their scientific inquisitiveness to learning starts as soon as preschoolers learn the power of the word ‘Why’ or (Brooke’s current favorite) “What is that?”. The Investigative Material series from Nomad Press is geared toward engaging preschool and kindergarten-aged children to learn and explore every day materials in an age appropriate way. I was interested in testing out the Cotton book first since most of the material that our daughter wears is made out of cotton and it seemed like a nice introduction to the materials series.
The Cotton Investigate Material book by Nomad Press is the first of a fun and educational series for early education with the intent to help our young scientists learn more about the characteristics of common materials. This 24 page book is filled with engaging text and colorful photography to help our children observe and identify the basics of cotton; where it comes from, what is made from it, and why we use it. I love the photographs of interested children exploring things like the explosive cotton seed pod. The awesome thing about this book is that it includes a section of challenge words to help kid’s explore independent learning. Little Fact: Did you know that dollar bills are made out of old denim jeans? Your kids will find this fascinating!
