My daughter’s birthday is coming up next month (Wow! Fast!) and I have been trying to find an awesome book to get her pumped up about her big day. I was checking out the Phonics Readers series from Creative Teaching Press on an unrelated book search when I ran across Barney Bear’s Party, which I thought was perfect. Brooke loves bears and her best friend, Twinkle Bear, is never far from her sight. In fact, Twinkle Bear will be sharing in on the festivities that day, so I imagine it will be his party, too! As a bonus to this cute birthday book, it is part of a Phonics Readers series (Barney Bear is book 20 out of 24 books in the Phonics series) and each book is focused on different phonics skills. I thought this was a perfect way to check this one out first and see if we were interested in continuing with the rest of the series.
Barney Bear’s Party, book 20 of the Dr. Maggie’s Phonics Readers series, is a sweet book about a little bear getting ready for his birthday party that focuses on the phonics skill of r-controlled vowels. Little Barney Bear is so excited it is his birthday and Momma Bear orchestrated a nice surprise for her son. The party is such fun with Barney and friends playing tag, opening gifts and eating lots of yummy cake. It’s perfect for young children in the pre-k – 1st grade range who will love to see the bear and his friends celebrating a party as well as seamlessly learning r-controlled vowels. The book is broken down into twenty focus-skill words, three sight words and three story words. It’s a party with phonics and a great introduction and my recommendation for the Dr. Maggie’s Phonics series.
