Product Review: Kuhn Rikon Kinderkitchen Dog Knife (Age 3+)
Carbon steel knives are going to the dogs….and it’s great fun!
I have done enough cooking-with-kid’s products that I’m afraid I may start sounding like a broken record, so I will just go directly into this cool product review! The number one Swiss brand of cookware, Kuhn Rikon, has a really great product line for kids called Kinderkitchen that offers the Dog Knife. This Japanese carbon-steel knife is 6.5″ in length and made to cut soft foods but not small fingers. Like all the products under this line, it has a whimsical quality and represents a member of the animal kingdom that is perfect for our imaginative kids. The Dog Knife has eyes and a nose stamped on the safe blade, rubber dog ‘ears’ that act as hand guards and a soft moveable rubber dog ‘tail’ at the end of the handle. It is utterly adorable yet practical. For older children, Kuhn Rikon offers a Dog Knife with Teeth, a serrated knife that is also made to not cut fingers. Check out the entire Kinderkitchen line that is well made and so cute. I am in love with the Gold Fish Measuring Spoons.
About Kuhn Rikon: Heinrich Kuhn, owner of a former copper and steel cookware factory, developed his first piece of cookware in 1927 in Toss valley, Switzerland under the Duro trademark. Kukn Rikon expanded to the U.S. market in 1988 through a subsidiary in Enfield, CT and has been especially profitably with U.S. sales of the Duromatic Pressure Cookers. Expanding on their ‘family ties’ mission, the Kinderkitchen line was developed specifically for children to help their parents in the kitchen.
Extra! The Kuhn Rikon website has some kid-only recipes perfect for cutting soft items with this Dog Knife. Check it out here. I like the Tutti Fruiti Smoothie and cutting a banana is a perfect break-in food for this Dog!
