It was a really fun day when Bob and I realized Brooke started adding letters ‘ing’ to verbs and using present progressive tense in a correct manner.  The first verb tense she used this way was for the word ‘mowing’ since she is particularly obsessed with her pretend mower that she likes to push around the yard.  With that one small connection cemented in my daughter’s brain, she started to add present progressive tenses to multiple familiar verbs such as jumping, eating and drinking.  It is quite fun to hear.  When I saw this listening lotto game (no reading required) for action verbs I thought it might be right up our alley.

Find That Action Verb Listening Lotto Game is a fun activity where your child listens to the action verb sound on the included CD and then finds the corresponding action on the photo game pieces.  The game includes the listening CD, a word list, twelve game cards (5.5″ x 8.5″) that have twelve action verb photos per card and 180 game tokens.  Directions and audio CD are in English, French and Spanish.  A token is placed on the action verb picture that corresponds to the matching sound.  Although you can play this game to win by completing your game board, for now we are just playing this game through the sheer fun of finding the corresponding picture to the sound.  It seems to be quite an effective way to ‘play’ this game with a child younger than the recommended age of four. This game is great for developing your child’s vocabulary, listening and language skills through identifying 32 action verbs included in the game.
