A Unique Learning Tool that Teaches Listening Skills

I grew up in an area of Ohio where there are still many remnants of the pre-Columbian Native American cultures (in particular, the Adena and the Hopewell) through their mound building earthworks.  The city where I spent my formative years has particularly fascinating earthworks and I was fortunate to have had multiple lessons of their history.  The Native American culture was always something that was very much respected in that area and I started to look for a fun way to introduce that history to my own daughter.  I am happy to report I found a very informative coloring book with a neat CD through Spizzirri Press that really hit home with me.

Northeast Indians Coloring Book and CD Package is a very unique educational product that combines a coloring book with an interactive learning CD.  The Northeast Indians Coloring Book has 32 pages of wonderful artwork and interesting facts about 15 of the Northeast Indian tribes.  You play the CD for your child while they go through the coloring book page-by-page and learn interesting facts and stories about the 15 tribes noted below.  The CD is really fantastic with a very personable narrator and sounds of things like wildlife and chants in the background.  The narration offers additional tidbits not always found in the coloring book’s facts and your child will learn things like the Wampanoag tribe was the tribe that helped the starving Pilgrims in present-day Plymouth.  I also found it helpful to have the correct pronunciation of names being spoken from the CD.  That was very helpful! I could see this working well for a Brownie or Cub Scout troop activity (or other like-organizations for children), too!  This was a fun way to learn about the important culture of the Northeast Indians in a unique way for children.

About Spizzirri Press, Inc:  This Rapid City, SD design and printing company began in 1975 by art major graduate from Chicago, Peter Spizzirri.  His passion is creating educational and quality coloring books for children.   I love his quote, “Just because it’s a coloring book, it doesn’t have to be mediocre art. If we give quality to look at from a young age, children will develop a finer appreciation of art”.  Well said, Peter!   Check out their entire award-winning catalog of coloring books and CD packages here.  Note:  Coloring books can be individually ordered for $ 2.95 each!
