Product Review: Pinatta’s View – A Trip to the Dentist DVD (Geared for Ages 2-5)
Don’t You Wish Everyone Saw Things From Your Point of View?
In honor of American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s (AAPD) launch of their new website, www.mychildrensteeth.org, I wanted to do a review on a children’s oral health awareness product. I was a little surprised when my own dentist told me while I was pregnant with Brooke that it was important to get my child’s gums checked when her first tooth appeared. That was a new one for me! Bob and I had to pay out of pocket for her first dental appointment before her 1st birthday, but it was worth it to us to know her gums and teeth (or tooth sockets!) were healthy. I am including the direct link here to the FAQ page for parents on pediatric dental health from AAPD and wanted to share my review on the DVD A Trip to the Dentist by an interesting character called Pinatta!
Pinatta is a unique puppet with a beehive hat who stands at just 40 inches tall which just happens to be a perfect point of view of a child. Pinatta, a talk show host from a big Oak Tree, has a knack of working with children to help them practice, prepare and develop confidence about new experiences. This DVD is about Pinatta helping a young girl named Emily overcome her nervousness about going to the dentist for the very first time by explaining the process and going on a field trip.
Pinatta’s View – A Trip to the Dentist DVD is a 28 minute long video about easing the anxiety for young children who may be nervous about going to the dentist. Pinatta and her backing Cool Man Band sing original songs, talk about the dental visit and give pointers by doing a practice dental run at home before Pinatta and Emily take a real trip to the dentist and hygienist to learn about the different sounds and instruments they will be using during her appointment. Before the trip, Pinatta was able to give Emily her magic ‘boggle goggles’ that help those who wear it see things more clearly. Emily’s visit was successful and she was able to see that the dentist was a caring person who wanted to clean her teeth and show her how to keep them in great shape for her next visit. I think this is a great way to ease any nervous toddlers and preschoolers who have an upcoming dental trip and Pinatta is a very kind and silly friend.
