Does your child know where the foods they eat originate? It’s not the grocery store! Farmer Bill is excited to show your kids his farm which offers all kinds of interesting and high-tech farm equipment including big trucks and tractors. The Farming for Kids DVD goes through the entire farming lifecycle from farmers preparing soil, planting, cultivating and harvesting their crops with all of their machinery in action. Crops that are harvested on the video include wheat, green beans, cabbage, carrots, corn and pumpkins. This video is actually very exciting and offers lots of live-action sure to be appreciated by children who love big tractors and trucks and other fun high-powered machinery.
Vrrrooommm 1 Farming for Kids DVD is the first of the award winning Farming for Kids series created by Farmer Bill and filmed on a 7,000-acre family farm. The 30-minute video is full of live action that should keep your little one entertained. The videos are well produced and Farmer Bill gives excellent explanations and demonstrations of growing and harvesting food as well as demonstrating all of the equipment that helps aid the modern farmer. You may notice that the clothing and the brief shots of the farm’s computer system look a little dated and that is because this DVD was completed in 1996. However, the overall message and the amount of high-tech machinery and work that goes into these large farming operations in the United States come through and it is a fun and educational DVD for the entire family. Bob and I laughed when Brooke said, “Again!” after the video was done. Farming for Kids also has a Teacher’s Guide available for purchase through the FarmKidVid website for an extra ten dollars. This guide includes a synopsis of the video, review questions for discussions and activity sheets. The other excellent DVDs available for purchase in this series include Dairy Farming, Apple Farming and Citrus Farming for Kids.
About Farmer Bill, Creator of Farming for Kids Video Series: Father of three, Bill Wickham AKA ‘Farmer Bill’, grew up on a farm in Flint New York and currently lives near Rochester where he and his wife, Debbie, continue to grow crops and offer fun family attractions on their farm. Educated at Cornell with a degree in agricultural economics, Farmer Bill began to get the idea for his “Vrrrooommm – Farming for Kids” video series when he would see the excitement children would have for his high-tech farm equipment when visiting his farm. Although the Farmer Bill in the series is played by an actor, Bill Wickham believes the actor perfectly captured his passion, enthusiasm and silliness and hopes that this series inspires children to love farming.
