Product Review: Olivia Goes Camping, Easy to Read Series Level 1 {Paperback} (Age 4+)
At Every Level, You Are a Reading Star!
I had one big advantage growing up in the foothills of Appalachia and that was Wayne National Forest. Wayne National Forest covers over a quarter million acres of the Appalachian foothills and is the only National Forest in Ohio. The absolute beauty of that area is still not matched in my mind and I currently have the pleasure of living right by the Hill Country area of Texas. There is nothing quite like my memories of sleeping under the stars and I especially began taking advantage of camping at ‘The Wayne’ throughout high school most of the time without a proper tent. Both my husband and I, whom I met while I was in high school, want to share our love of the outdoors and camping with Brooke. I got a great tip on the Ready to Read Books from my Mother-in-Law and saw the adorable Olivia Goes Camping book when researching the series that I wanted to get for my daughter.
Olivia Goes Camping is based on the TV series OLIVIA on the Nickelodeon Network and has been adapted for the Ready to Read Series Level 1. OLIVIA was adapted by the Olivia children’s books of Ian Falconer who wrote the character as a tribute to his niece. Olivia is a hyper-active little piglet with many funny antics that exhaust her loving mother. In Olivia Goes Camping, Olivia is so excited to be able to bring her best friend, Francine, on her family camping trip. However, Francine initially does not share Olivia’s enthusiasm with the outdoors. Olivia tries to help Francine discover the love of mud, bugs and sleeping on the ground. It is nice to read about Francine developing an appreciation of ‘roughing it’ and the tasty S’mores at the end didn’t hurt, either!
About the Ready to Read Series: The Ready to Read books are designed so that kids can gain confidence in their reading. The series start with the Pre-Level One Group with familiar words and finishes at Level Three with challenging words and more complex sentence structures. The Simon Spotlight Ready to Read books adapt and showcase familiar characters and stories for children, like Olivia, to help engage the child with their favorite ‘stars’.
