Product Review: Little Librarian Kit (Age 4+)
Be a real librarian. Just add books!
I will never forget my excitement as summer approached during my elementary school years for the simple fact that I could now start earning ‘book reading’ certificates at the Kate Love Simpson public library in my village. You see, if you read x (I will guess 10) number of books during the summer, you would get a certificate on the wall of the library with your name on it. If you read an additional xx (maybe 20?) number of books, you would get a second certificate on the wall of the library with your name on it. If you were Momma’s Bacon, you would read so many books in one summer that there would be an entire wall of certificates dedicated just to you and the massive amounts of books you read! I would proudly yet ‘humbly’ admire my wall of certificates and relish in the fact that while no one around probably knew that I was the girl whose name was on all those reading certificates, that a person seeing it must be thinking I was some sort of an amazing young genius who could read so many books in one summer. Yes, as delusional as it sounds, I did take a lot of pride of my book certificate wall! The library and reading was like a retreat for me. A respite of my everyday life where I could be whoever I wanted to be and go wherever I wanted to go. I wanted to believe I could have such wonderful friends and go on many fantastic adventures in foreign lands and learn about the greats in history and how they arrived at the successes in life that they did. Even now as I enter a library, the musty smell of books and polished desks gives me a wave of comfort and nostalgia and it makes me slightly sad to think there could be a future where libraries would not exist as they do in my memory. I want to give Brooke my experience of love with my childhood library where the date stamp in your book meant you held partial ownership of that literary order as your own if only for a brief moment in time so imagine how thrilled I was when I learned that a product to do just that called the Little Librarian existed!
The Little Librarian kit is a very functional library kit for a child to pretend to have their own library and call the shots as a librarian. The only thing missing from this kit is the library books themselves, which our family will not have issues supplying! The kit contains 7 File Folders, 15 Book Pockets, 15 Book Cards, 4 Library Cards, 4 Reading Awards, 2 Bookmarks, 6 Overdue slips and 1 Reading Journal. Not only do I think this kit is just plain cool, it does have the educational skill promotion of organizing, sharing, borrowing and then returning the books to their rightful owners of the ‘public’ library. Your little Librarian can issue you your own library card and check out books with your very own check out cards. Be careful to not let your book go overdue or your little Librarian will issue you an overdue notice! Uh oh! My favorite, of course, is the reading award certificates (adorable) as well as a little book journal to keep track of your favorite books. This is such a wonderful incentive to motivate your child to read and gives them an opportunity to control and organize their own category of books. I am beyond thrilled with this kit and can’t wait to share in the fun with Brooke!

About Creators Amanda (Mandy) and Kris Miller: Mother and daughter team paired up to create this award winning Library kit after their own love of playing pretend librarian. You must check out their sweet story on their About Us page of their website. I was very touched to read it! When Mandy was in high school, she wrote the business plan for a high school class, and won the competition. They decided to start the business, and the rest is history. Mandy and Kris are always on the lookout for owners to send in their favorite idea for Little Librarian play to info@littlelibrarian.net. Your idea may just be featured on their website! Kris also wanted me to mention that purchasing a date stamp and ink pad is a nice addition if it is age appropriate. She was unable to include them in the kit due to any lead concerns and choking safety.
