Product Review: Sprout Your Own Sweet Scents Mini-Garden Kit (Ages 4-12)

I have been on the lookout for our first perfect herb garden product and thought that the Sprout Your Own Sweet Scents Mini-Garden Kit through Chronicle Books was perfect for us. Sprout Your Own Sweet Scents enthusiasm was fueled by our recent Montessori smelling activity with essential oils and the thought of incorporating smells into herb gardening was very intriguing to me. The kit offers everything you need to complete your mini herb garden including 3 seed packets, peat, planters, a 32-page gardening booklet, drip trays and a sticker decorating kit (joy!). The three fragrant seed packets included in this kit are the fast-growing family of herbs of Cinnamon Basil, Lemon Balm, and Spearmint. The three planters come in three different colored see-through biodegradable planters so that your little gardener can watch the root action underneath the peat’s surface. The plants sprout with scented leaves in as little as two weeks which is perfect for the young child’s attention span. I absolutely adore the booklet that has such fantastic sections as your plant’s growth chart and different recipes you can make with your herbs. What a fantastic read for a child! I will definitely be back for the next sequential gardening book for children in this series Sprout Your Own Leafy Wonders. While our herb garden is still young and we (*ahem*, we all know who ‘we’ mean by ‘we’, right?) have been admittedly a little heavy handed on our watering, the Cinnamon Basil is sprouting nicely and the Spearmint is just starting to sprout and I imagine the Lemon Balm will fall right behind. Yes!
