Product Review: Number Hunt Game (Ages 5+)
Math Success…….Naturally!
I have spent a good portion of my life staring at numbers. My last two years of my undergraduate degree was spent doing statistical work and econometrics. I have spent a good chunk of my career after college looking at numbers for budgetary, financial or analytical purposes. I took my first Economics course from a local community college at 16 and thought, “Wow! You can make a living talking about macro-economic theory?” and I was hooked. Living on one income now, I even budget our family’s spending on an annual basis so we can make ends meet. Fun? No. Necessary? Yes. I enjoy seeing zero balances on our bills, positive numbers in our checking and, to be honest, anything in our savings. Numbers seem to rule our lives whether we like it or not and I’ve always tried to stay on top of the numbers that directly affect my life. So how do you introduce numbers in a fun way to children and not make them scary? Through a fun game like Number Hunt, naturally!
The Number Hunt game is a really cute way to introduce counting, addition and subtraction while having fun with your child. The slogan of this game is to ‘add your way through the jungle’. This is a 2 to 4 person board and dice game with the goal of navigating your way from start to finish through a line of numbered squares. The single die is wooden and labeled with the numbers 0-5. My favorite part is that you either land on a space with a number or a certain number of bugs and you must either count or say the number of that space. By adding up the die with the numbered space you get to move forward on each turn. Watch out because there are ‘skip a turn’ or ‘go back’ (subtract) spaces that can hinder your route. First one to the finish is the victor! An added bonus is that this is an eco-friendly game. The entire game is printed with vegetable ink on recycled paper. A definite fun filled learning game about numbers for the entire family.
