Product Review: Wireless Temperature Station with Weather (Girl) *Fun*
Innovative Weather Solutions and Trusted Partner of The Weather Channel
Bob and I are on opposite sides of the spectrum when dealing with how we prepare ourselves for Austin’s weather forecasts. Bob will check the weather days before an event and will let you if an event will be canceled or miserable due to inclement conditions. I have a habit of never checking the weather forecast and often find myself at the mercy of my on-hand clothing and supplies if the weather circumstances get rough. Both extreme positions on preparedness leave much to be desired in a state where the saying goes, ‘If you don’t like the weather in Texas, wait five minutes’. I have a sneaky suspicion that Texas is just one out of our fifty states that commonly use this saying about weather forecasting since the science and nature of our environment seems to be temperamental. We decided to give Brooke a fighting chance to learn about the immediacy of the weather in conjunction with picking out clothing and we have been very pleased with La Crosse Technology’s Wireless Temperature Station with Weather.
The Wireless Temperature Station with Weather (Girl Version) is a weather station for a child that displays both the current indoor and outdoor temperatures with a reacting weather girl icon. The outdoor transmitter must be placed within 200 feet of the device in an outdoor location free from direct sunlight or weather conditions like rain. There are specific instructions that are included that must be exactly followed in order to accurately set the device to record outdoor temperature. Once set, the girl icon has five outdoor-related images depicting appropriate dress based on the outdoor weather conditions. The images range from the girl icon in a bathing suit to full winter gear complete with a scarf. The receiver can be mounted on the wall or set on the free-standing display in your child’s room. The product takes 3 “AA” batteries for the receiver and 2 “AAA” batteries for the sensor. Temperature display ranges are between 14.2°F to 139.8°F (-9.9°C to 59.9°C) for indoor and -39.8°F to +139.8°F (-39.9°C to +59.9°C) for outdoor. The weather station has some great features like a frost warning indicator, time display and the MIN/MAX records display for outdoor temperature.
While I have read the negative reviews on transmission or battery issues with this product, we have had this device for over four months and have never had a problem. In fact, my love of this product has only increased with its use and we find the indoor temperature display especially helpful in Brooke’s room. As Brooke starts to pick out outfits to wear, our hope is that she uses this device for many years to give her a temperature guide for appropriate amounts of articles of clothing. Perhaps Brooke will even prove to be our family’s clothing-preparedness happy medium when it comes to the current weather conditions!
