I think we sometimes take Austin’s easy access to fresh, local produce at a variety of Farmer’s Markets for granted. One of our first outings with Brooke following her initial family-imposed quarantine after her NICU stint was to the downtown Farmer’s Market. I know no other family that gets so excited for a jar of non-hydrogenated, pastured pork lard. When I saw The Playful Chef Farmer’s Market Set that has the intention of getting kid’s involved with shopping for healthy ingredients, I wanted to learn more.
The Playful Chef’s Farmer’s Market Set comes with a child-size reusable 100% cotton bag for shopping (love the cartoon broccoli design!), produce scrubber, a ‘helper’ towel and a booklet about Farmer’s Markets. The booklet has easy to follow instructions on how to clean and peel produce, information on seasonal fruits and vegetables and some great shopping tips on product purchases. This isn’t a frilly set, it is a starter pack with a wonderful intent to get your kids excited to be involved with shopping for fruits and vegetables as a family. The creator, Lisa Ligon, is a mom who wants to get kids involved with learning about where our food comes from and making healthy meals more meaningful for families and I think this product accomplishes her goal. This product works just as well with a grocery store outing or if your area has a fantastic Farmer’s Market.
