I have not always been this happy and positive person that you read before you. In high school, I was responsible for writing such classic ‘songs’ as I Will Destroy You and The Beadings Have Untangled. Yes, folks, I was the typical teenage Debbie Downer complete with an acoustic guitar and brooding eyes. I am here to tell you it was unhealthy and exhausting to be that depressed. How did I change into a more positive individual, I imagine you asking? It was not overnight, but gradually I just started to take responsibility for my life and appreciate what I did have and not take my life or others for granted. I hope I can show my daughter to be kind and love herself and be a so-called ‘bucket filler’. Life can be hard, but we can make it easier by putting out positive actions and words for ourselves and others and I thought the book Have You Filled a Bucket Today: A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids is an awesome reminder to adults and kids that we are the drivers of our happiness.
The Have You Filled a Bucket Today book has a great message for kids that you can have happiness by spreading happiness. You fill buckets by doing things like saying something nice and choosing your words carefully. There isn’t anything revolutionary about this message, but it is written in a way that is easily understood by children with beautiful illustrations that being kind to others does matter to our own happiness. I found this book to be refreshing and something I want to read over and over to my daughter, which is worth the 10 dollar price tag to me.
