Product Review: snackTAXI’s Pick Up America Pink reusable sandwich-sack
Food Movers for a Happy Planet
I love snackTAXI’s slogan Waste? Not! I admit I had a bad habit of buying plastic sandwich baggies for my peanut butter sandwiches for lunch. For some reason, it seemed like an easier way to pack. It wasn’t until I really realized what a waste on the environment and my pocketbook it was to use plastic baggies that I knew there was a better way to carry my daily provisions. snackTAXI’s website estimates that the United States adds approximately 20 million plastic baggies to landfills each day. Ouch! By using a reusable sandwich-sack there is a potential to eliminate thousands of plastic bags in its life span. While switching to a reusable sandwich-sack may seem insignificant in the scheme of our waste, snackTAXI has estimated that the reusable products they have sent out in the last two years alone have kept around 430,000 pounds of plastic out of our waste stream. As Brooke gets closer to school age and we will need to pack her own lunches, I wanted to support a great product to help us reduce plastics in our oceans and landfills and found snackTAXI was my favorite reusable bag.
snackTAXI’s sandwich-sacks are a large size for most sandwiches (and a very large bagel!) with the dimensions of 7.5″x 6″ and I think they are a simple yet great product. snackTAXI’s claim to fame is that they are the original reusable bags for snacks and sandwiches since 2003. The simple yet beautiful design and colorful material definitely beats the normal plastic sandwich baggie. SnackTAXI products are free of lead, phthalate and BPA. The exterior is 100% cotton with a polyurethane coated nylon interior and are machine washable. snackTAXI loves to participate in worthy fundraisers and the purchase of this particular sandwich-sack directly benefits the nonprofit organization Pick Up America.

About snackTAXI inventor: Erin Kelly-Dill invented snackTAXI in 2003 when her three kids started school all at once and she was tired of using a massive amount of plastic baggies she was packing in an estimated 500 lunches she made that year. snackTAXI is her labor of love and has been featured in such venues as Oprah and Martha Stewart’s personal blog. The business is a local endeavor made entirely in snackTAXI’s home-based workshop in Plainfield, Massachusetts.
Check out snackTAXI’s website!: snackTAXI’s website has a listing of all of their reusable lunch products like lunch bags, snack-sacks and even gluten-free labeled sacks. Can you help? Per their website, snackTAXI is currently on the lookout for a great recycled nylon product, so please send any suggestions for sources to Erin!
