Product Review:  Kid’sleep Classic Clock (Pink) by Claessens’ Kids (toddler +)

It’s Time for Kids

I am very selective in products I review and even more selective about reviews I post to my Momma’s Bacon blog.  I only want to champion items I feel are useful to my site’s mission and like to keep my blog posts to only the positive products I find.  The Kid’sleep Classic Clock by Claessens’ Kids (now say that 5 times fast) is a product I have had for almost seven months and up until a month ago I really had a love/hate relationship with this product.  However, now that I am 95% sure I know how to work the thing, it really has been a great product addition for our family that Brooke can’t live without.  I wanted to post for my readers to decide if this would be a good product for them.

I like to slowly and thoughtfully introduce concepts to Brooke in a fun way, as early as possible, to make her learning and milestones seem organic to her.  Potty books, underwear dolls, latching boards and ABC mats; we feel contributes to Brooke’s happy-go-lucky demeanor and her love of learning through conscious planning on our end.  When I read about the Kid’sleep Classic Clock I thought it was a fun way of introducing wake up and go to bed times.   The clock has a cartoon animal that is either shown lit up awake or asleep as indicated on the ‘clock’ face.  The girl version of this clock has an ‘awake’ cow in a pink dress and that cinched it for me.  I had to buy it!

I would say that the Kid’sleep Classic Clock was the perfect product, except for all of our programming frustrations we have had.  Although we programmed in the maximum of three different wake-up and sleep times (awake, sleep, and nap-time) in the clock right after we purchased, we did not understand from the directions as written that there were manual directions you had to manually flip a switch for Cow to go back to sleep once she is ‘awake’.  Cow automatically wakes up with your pre-set programmed times.  I had to email the Swiss company and get additional directions since the short translated description was confusing to both Bob and I.  I am attaching Claessens’ Kids e-mail instructions to this review for reference so any purchasers are not confused. Now with us manually flipping a switch to put cow back to sleep, the process has been seamless. In fact, Brooke expects and loves for us to say that ‘Cow’ (as she calls her) has to go to bed and we make a production of flipping the switch for Cow’s bedtime.  Brooke has been fixating on her cow clock every day now and likes to say ‘Hi, Cow!’ and ‘Night, Cow!’ as soon as she wakes and right before she goes to bed.  Bob and I are now in the habit of saying goodnight to both Brooke and Cow before bed each night.  It has been a fun and sweet family ritual and I am so glad we hung in there with this product.  The outcome and Brooke’s happiness that she has a friend who is on her time schedule is pretty priceless if you ask me!

Alarm Warning!  There is a switch setting for an actual alarm on the clock which I accidentally set one night with all the manually flipping I do on it now.  It was startling for both Bob and Brooke the next morning and Bob thought a bird got into our house.  I did not get a happy text while at work!  While I can potentially see a use for a kid’s alarm clock, I think by the time Brooke needs to set an alarm we will have transitioned her to a clock with face numbers.  However, that said, I am very happy with this product and how we use it right now.

Attachment e-mail from Claessens’ Kids of additional instructions for the Kid’sleep Classic Clock (Pink)

Hello,

We are sorry of this situation.

When setting, attention not to let more than 5 sec. between each pression on Set button, otherwise the LCD screen will go back to initial clock time.

In a first step and in order to see if your Kid’Sleep works, please unplug your Kid’sleep during 30 s. and then plug it again (time shows 12:00). Switch the main button on logo moon/sun. Cow is sleeping. Press 4 times on “set” and then, press once on “up” button (time to wake up is now set at 12:01). Then wait. You will see the today’s time coming back at 12:00. At 12:01, the sleeping cow should pass to awake. It means that it is time to wake up.

Then you switch off the screen with main button on O, if you put it back on moon/sun position, the cow will again be sleeping, ready for the next sleep…

You can set a time to wake up for the morning and a time to wake up for the nap.

If OK, you have then first to set AM/PM, press set, then minutes of actual time, press set, then hour of actual time, press set, then minutes of 1st wake up time, press set, then hour of 1st wake up time, press set, then minutes of 2nd wake up time, press set, then hour of 2nd wake up time, press set.

Does this help? If not, please do not hesitate to come back.

Best regards.

  1. Great review and thanks for quoting the email. I just bought the blue version for my 2.5 year old son at a consignment sale. He does fairly well, but there are the occasional early mornings and we hope this will help him understand it’s still too early to get up. Unfortunately, the version I found doesn’t have the nap time option – just a single “wake up” alarm setting. Going to try turning the entire thing off during the day and see how it goes as a “night time only” product.

    • Hi Sarah C! Thanks so much for your comment. Please keep in touch to let me know how the night time only thing works for you and your son. My daughter is very concerned about ‘Cow’ and likes to make sure she is sleeping when she goes to bed and will usually not make a peep in the mornings until she sees ‘Cow’ is up. Good luck to you and I hope it works as well for your family! You sound like a very sweet momma!

  3. Thank you so much for your review! The directions for this product are terrible! I have been sitting here trying to figure out how the clock goes back to the sleep position when it is time for bed and this review answered that question! Thanks again!

  4. I had to put a spot of glue, from my hot glue gun to keep my little one from turning the alarm part on. other than that, your review is spot on! great product- although I wish it had a battery backup for power outages/unplugging. 🙂

  5. Thank you!!! I’ve had this clock for some time – and we love it! But I never could figure out how to program it — I’ve always had to rely on my husband to do it. Now that we switched the clock by an hour I needed to adjust it – and your instructions were perfect.
