Product Review: Parking Pal Magnets *Safety* (geared towards toddlers and young children)
Incorporating Fun and Safety. Baby-proof your car.
Thirteen years ago I was in a car accident on my college campus parking lot when a speeding car slammed into my van as I had inched out of the parking space. The driver was not paying attention and the car was noted as going over 30 mph in a 15 mph zone. Although my used, older van bit the dust less than 6 months after the incident, the experience left me shaken and I have always been extra cautious of speeding cars in close quarters. The appeal of the Parking Pal Magnet for toddlers and young children was something I purchased while I was still pregnant with my daughter because the idea of parking lot safety for young children was an appeal to me.
Drivers, children, and parents can be careless and distracted in parking lots and the Parking Pal Magnet is a great aid in giving your child a safe spot to go (ours is on the side of our gas tank) and focus. This is not a device to leave your kids unattended at your car. Instead, this is a very simple tool to help parents and children to have a safe spot in a parking lot while doing things like loading and unloading vehicles. Parking lot accidents and tragedies can happen in a split second and the Parking Pal Magnet offers a way to help teach your child to stop and wait before going to or from an activity in a busy location. The Parking Pal is a magnet with a picture of a hand that attaches easily to your vehicle so that children can place their palms to on it to wait. The magnets come in 8 different bright colors and hand designs. Parking Pals website gives great teaching recommendations like showing your child how to ‘high five’ their magnet. After showing her how her hand can fit on the magnet many months ago, Brooke will now go right to her magnet (or, as she calls it, her ‘hand’) when we are around my car to place her palm and talk about the pretty flowers on it. I have started to say ‘hand’, too, as a reminder it is there for her to go check out.
About Parking Pals Magnet: Parking Pals Magnet was created by a Virginia mom with two young sons (3 & 5 at the time) who was concerned about them wandering or bolting from her in parking lots. Her older son learned to go directly to their Parking Pals magnet whenever they were in a parking lot to place his hand on it and chat while she would get her younger son into his stroller or back into his car seat. Her simple yet effective solution worked for her family and she wanted to share this idea with other parents to help reduce parking lot dangers and injuries to kids.
