Product Review: Does Your Daughter Have DADHAIR? (Craig Lawrey) *SAHD*
DADHAIR (dad-hÄr) n. A style in which hair is arranged so that it is obvious that an unskilled stylist (namely the male paternal figure) is responsible. Syn. DISASTER, TRAGEDY.
My husband, a Stay At Home Dad (SAHD), is the most amazing father in the whole entire world who just happens to style our daughter’s hair to look like Ed Grimley (although my husband swears it looks like Meg Ryan circa 1986). I will give you young ones time to go Google Ed Grimley’s image. Back now? Ok. It is not such a pretty sight. He thinks it gives her hair body to slick it back when it is wet and when it dries it poofs out like a giant point running from her hairline. It is hilarious but also a little cringe-worthy that he can be so fantastic in all other areas of fatherhood but falls short when dealing with Brooke’s tresses. In one of my many nights of researching products I ran across Does Your Daughter Have DADHAIR by fellow SAHD Craig Lawrey and had a good laugh. It immediately gained my attention because I love finding SAHD material for my family, but also because it just felt so true to our life.
This is a girl’s hair styling book for dads written by a dad and I was enthralled while reading it in all of its glory. Now make no mistake, this is a basic hair styling guide for dads although there are some really cute styles my favorite being the Princess Loopy Loop. However, the book includes lots of fantastic color photographs, genuinely easy step-by-step hair styling tips and contains a lot of great humor (such as guy-speak like hair ‘equipment for my arsenal’) perfect for a dad. Craig’s writing injects heartwarming snippets of the characteristics of the father-daughter relationship that I found enchanting especially when thinking of my own little family. I would recommend this book to any father with a daughter and I would make it a very special buy for all of you SAHDs out there. It can be hard to find positive SAHD products that reinforce our very happy lifestyle for our daughter and this is a great one. I will paraphrase my favorite line of the book where Lawrey says the joy is not the destination for your daughter’s life, it is the helping them on their journey. My momma heart just bursts thinking that my husband feels the same about Brooke. Plus, I am also not ashamed to admit that I learned a thing or two for our daughter’s hair.
